Good news, book friends - I am now receiving library books by mail, and sending in my requests....they supply request cards that don't need stamps! I absolutely love this service so am reading every day again and love it. Do you all have this service in England?????? Hugs...maggie :flowers:

I buy all mine from charity shops. This way it helps other people, and when returned they can be sold again and do more good.

Not sure, don't think so. Closest I've seen is Mobile Lending Libraries in the UK. :sorry:

Boks are readily available by mail. Amazon and Waterfords do a good trade

For years and years I bought books at Thrift stores, and I've spent way too much $$$ at Amazon for books. Since I don't drive anymore, I can't get out to thrift shops....Sure miss them too. One of my friends has a thrift shop and another friend took me by there today - have been trying to get there for 2-3 years.... When I visited England back in 2005 I bought lots of books at thrift shops here and there... Still, this Books by Mail is the best yet !!!!!!!!!!!!! Hugs... :flowers:

Maggie is talking about a lending library , not book sales . I think the nearest we have is probably Kindle Unlimited , but I haven't tried it though we have a Prime subscription for all deliveries here

Yes, it is our regular county library - they are sending me books in zipper pouches by mail now....and they send cards for me to fill out for books I want to receive.... It's really wonderful. All this at no charge !!

We have a local village shop, as long as you buy one book in your lifetime, they do a project whereby you book swap. You go in pick a book, keep it as long as you like and then go return book for another.

Most of us try to get hold of books that friends or relatives , neighbours whom no longer read and donate to the shop.

It works for us :smiles:
