I read through The Old Testament this past week, and learned again so many things I did not know or
had forgotten. We are studying Acts in our Bible Study class - and this is where Peter 'disappeared' - I did not realize that...

I've just downloaded a copy of the Bible from the internet.

When I'd finished it said, 'Saved'. :geek:

Many years ago, I read a book called 'Judas my brother', by Frank Yerby.
He had researched for years.
It was in complete contradiction to bible stories.
I am still sure, that if we hadn't been taught the bible, then most people would have sworn that Judas my brother was the true book.

According to the bible, Jesus walked on water.
According to Frank Yerby, they were wondering how to cross, when Jesus saw a dilapidated shed nearby. They removed the door, put it on the water, then stood on it.
The effect was, that it looked like they were walking on water.

We are studying Isaiah now - it has 65 chapters! He's a prophet, which I did not realize...anyway, we are on chapter 28 now. Isaiah is very discouraged with the Jews, who do not follow God's rules for us, who want money money money...and sex sex sex....Moreover, they keep worshiping idols. He correctly predicted that Jerusalem would be destroyed by the Assyrians ....

Reading Isaiah has caused me to wonder about the Hurricane.... as a way God might be trying to get our attention.... Well, it's something to think about. :whathesaid:

Maggieblue,

You do realise that every word in the bible was written by people. Not gods.

Every day thousands of innocent people are killed either deliberately or accidentally. And many of these people are (were) believers. Where was their god when they needed Him/Her/It ?

Religion is the oldest con game in the book.

All you need to remember to live a good, happy life is that you are responsible for your acts.

There is no 'God'. But there are lot's of people who want to strut around in the garb of clerics telling others what to do.

...Reading Isaiah has caused me to wonder about the Hurricane.... as a way God might be trying to get our attention.... Well, it's something to think about..

Yeah, well.... promise us if you start to here voices telling you to kill people you will seek immediate attention.

Dave.

Maggieblue,

Maybe the above is a bit harsh.

But a few years ago someone suggested that the September 11th incident was God's way of waking up the American people as they were moving outside the fold.

And who was that person ?

Judge Roy Moor.

Dave.

I consider myself an agnostic rather than an atheist, because I cannot prove that there is no God. But I do hope there is not a God because if there is He, She or It is a sadist! Not just killing but frequently torturing people in the process. Often little children who have not even had time to be sinful. I remember a woman on TV news during Hurricane Katrina, saying that God was with her and He saved two of her 4 children! Logic plays no part in religion.

Ciderman,

.. because I cannot prove that there is no God...

And it is this single fact that holds all religion together.

If you ask a believer to prove there is a god, they will reply with 'prove there isn't'.

And you are stuffed because it is impossible to prove a negative.

I agree wholeheartedly with your other points.

Funny thing is that while many people have observed what we call ufos, the idea of their reality is usually mocked.
Yet there is far more evidence pointing to their reality then there is for the existence of as God.

Dave.

I think people should be careful when reading the Bible. It says in Leviticus 25:44 that we may have both male or female slaves as long as they are from other nations but our govt will not allow us to have Australian slaves! I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbeth . Exodus 35:2 states that he must be put to death, should I do this or should I call the police? I would like to sell my daughter into slavery as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7 but I cannot find what is a fair price.
Alas! I cannot be religious- I am too confused. :wink4:

Isn't God a bit of a narcissist? He/She/It demands that we adore and worship Him/Her/It. And condemns us if we worship any other God.

We also can choose right or wrong. But really, can we? If we choose wrong, then we are sent for Eternity to the Fires of Hell. So that only leaves right, yes?

Not much choice there, methinks.

Have a good day!!
