Help ! I've been reading a book of his called 'Bewitched by the Stage,' and can find out very, very little about him.
This book was published in Key West, Florida. Some of you who are good in finding out things try to find out about this writer for me - is he still alive, for instance?
Maggie

Bewitched by the Stage 1998 Jack Royce

From what I've gathered he lived in Britain at the time.

added for those that don't know.
The ISBN10 and ISBN13 numbers are International Standard Book Numbers, the "10" variation is being phased out for the newer "13" version.

Amazon lists a few more titles and from the cover designs it looks as if there could be a close connection between Jack Royce and John D Mitchell - maybe they are the same person.

That's all I've found so far but I'll keep looking if I think of other places to look.

Hmmm I like a mystery.

If you look on amazon under Jack Royce as an author only a few titles come up. On a couple of them e.g. Troubled Paradise it says..

About the Author

Jack Royce has written eight mystery novels. It is a pen name for an author who has had published twenty non-fiction books about the theatre arts. He has translated from the French, Russian and Italian classics. He has lived in Key West for the last fifteen years after traveling around the world five times.

Sooo, it's a pseudonym for someone else, but who?

A bit of googling of Eaton Street Press suggest they are a tiny publisher of few titles by one is by John D Mitchell, could well be the same guy. More interestingly they publish a book by 'Earle Ernst'. Looking him up reveals he is a prolific writer of theatre books, especially Japanese kabuki.

Coincidence or is this Jack? There is an Eaton Street in Key West as well.

Hmmm Ernst appears to have died in 1994 and some of the 'Jack Royce' books were published after that..posthumously? Or are Jack and Ernst separate people... quite bit of stuff on the web about Ernst. He was a university professor.

Interestingly there is a defunct company called Eaton Street Press based in Key West..last known director? John D Mitchell. And he seems to have written several books on theatre as well, especially Japanese....

Curiouser and couriouser.

John Dietrich Mitchell is his full name. He exists and so does Ernst so looks like they are not both Jack Royce.
I guess that John Mitchell is.

Yes Maggie he is, or rather was. He died in 2005 aged 87.

This link confirms Jack Royce was his pseudonym. I guess he and Ernst were associates with a shared love of Asian theatre.
