Disappearing tradition
St. Nicholas' birthday is on the sixth of December. He lives in Spain and visits The Netherlands every year to bring presents to the children. His helpers are called the “Black Peters”

People of other ethnic groups, especialy Africans, would like to stop the Black Peter tradition because it’s insultIng, they say. Slavery is a crime of Europian people
Sylvana Simons a politica, born in Suriname tries to get a law past that stops Black Peter tradition.
A large group of anti Black Peter tried to demonstrate but those for put a lot of trucks on the road, so that it was impossible for the those again to get through and the demonstration was cancelled.
But why do we have to stop the Black Peter tradition?
Warlike kings like the Ashanti tribe in Ghana, got their human booty in wars and raids from surrounding peoples. Traders sold the living merchandise on behalf of the king to the Europeans
So the African Ashaties were also criminals..
The slaves were held captive in Elmina castle before they had to go through the castle’s infamous “Door of No Return” to be transported and resold in America and other colonies.. Girl slaves who got pregnant by whites could leave the castle. The baby got the surname of the white who made here pregnant. So there are black people with the Dutch names Winterman. Zijlstra Jansen etc.
Nowadays Elmina is a tourist attraction. A guide shows people around and tells the history of slavery
Well Sylvana, travel to Ghana and visit Elmina Castle, listen to the guide.
Why doesn’t West Africa talk about guilt and apologies?
At the end of the excursion the guide ask to sign the book, and about their feelings. He also asked to write down which country you come from..
I got overcame with emotion when I wrote “The Netherlands”

So the raiding of neighboring tribes in the past and the taking of people from these tribe for use as forced labour or sex slaves never happened ?

All before Europeans (may I say 'whites' ?) ever entered Africa in large numbers.

The slaughter of one tribe by another never happened ?

It's all down to Europeans ?

Dave.

Zimba,

Upon re-reading your article, I feel I owe you something of an apology.

I see you ARE asking why the Africans are not questioning their part in the slave trade.
You make a valid point.

I haven't simply deleted my post as it stands to illustrate how easy it is to misinterpret someone's intentions.

Again, my apologies.

Dave.
