Re: Job Losses

According to official figures and the library in the House of Commons - A quarter of a million new people - have been arriving in this country - every year - for the past decades. A quarter of a million. And that figure is - Net Migration - A large new city, every year, to be housed, fed, watered, e...

Re: A trip to the vet

Coopers sell a brolly supposed to be unbreakable, can turn inside out in a storm and back again, over and over, without damage.

Years ago I bought one for my little auld auntie and she was very happy with it.

Re: Freedom!

We had a motor caravan from the time our boys were tiny. It made a comfortable second family vehicle and we never hankered for anything to tow. Our first van was an ancient Ford Thames that an elderly engineer friend had converted, every inch looked pristine and the colour scheme was lovely and unus...

Re: Tit poser

My hair seems to grow at least three inches a month and in every direction at once. I remember one episode of Sex And The City where Samantha has to give a talk to a cancer group. She gets more and more tongue tied, eventually, in desperation, she takes off her wig, to show she is one of them. There...

Timothy Bottom was brave not to adopt a stage name, I thought?

No doubt he's heard the same 'jokes' one thousand times?

Re: Job Losses

A moratorium on ALL immigration, from ANY part of the world, for a few years, is continually asked here, by many groups. Especially migrants themselves. That was clearly published, in many surveys, before the referendum. What bit of - humanitarian grounds - is so difficult to comprehend? Over the ye...

Sadly, with humans being so prone to fanaticism, of one sort or another, anything becomes an excuse for murderous division.

Re: I bought myself a coconut palm!

If they grow and are a good colour, they are happy. Like babies. The young woman gave me the palm tree when she moved, it grew to the ceiling but can be trimmed back and new branches form. Eventually, I made a new one from a top cutting and planted the main tree outside, in a very shelter spot. The ...

It is a surname and must be embarrassing at school?

Re: Tit poser

Talking of birds, as we weren't. Usually I try and deter wood pigeons, known to us as 'piggies', all they ever do is eat and bonk. They used to swamp the bird table and feeders, frightening off the little songbirds, until I surrounded table and feeders with plastic trellis and that stopped their fun...

Re: Proud to be white

'Culture' being tied to 'colour' is another silly nonsense.

Change 'colour' to 'nationality' and it works much better.

Brits and Scandinavians living in Spain are often dark mahogany. Is that a 'culture'? Or a 'colour'?

Re: Tit poser

Lots of hair makes a lot of mess, shed is a good place.

I had a neighbour many years ago, had been a nursery man, loved his beautiful garden and all nature. In the springtime he trimmed his thick white curls on the lawn, a robin and a blackbird would fly down and take them from his hand.

Re: Job Losses

Another lincredibly inane comment. This is a vastly overcrowded country and many people ask for a moratorium on ALL immigration, from ANY part of the world, for a few years. The most vociferous groups asking for that are migrants, recent and past. Because they understand the pressures on a country a...

We are vastly overcrowded but Hong Kong is a very different situation.

Most of those who might decided to settle here, in Australia, Singapore, or anywhere else, have a lot to offer. AND unlikely to want to blow us up.

Re: Proud to be white

Complete nonsense that anyone should be embarrassed by being born who they are. The only really - proud - thing is to decide that 'colour' does not exist. Stephen Fry's granddad was Hungarian and Jewish. Stephen Fry is never called Hungarian, or Jewish. But somebody whose great grandparents came to ...
