Re: Wartime Squatters.

Laurie, the first ten years of my Lancashire childhood, including the entire wartime, was spent in a house with all those characteristics. To have used the word slum in front of my mother you would have been distinctly inadvisable . . . I am unsure what places you have in mind -- possibly the much e...

Re: New Daffodil?

Sadly, the last of Lady B's daffs (she's the gardener round here) have now come and gone, and she's been having a problem getting new bulbs. It's all beyond me though. I'm more the allotment tendency, or was.
Star, I remember Royal Iris. I thought she was still going. Sad to hear that.

Re: Hugh Bonneville

Scotston - He played The Duck of Grantham in Downton :smiles: In his prime, I would not have kicked him out of bed on a cold dark night, if he had no home to go to. Or even a bright sunny afternoon, if he had. Nah. This -- the one and only Bonneville -- is what I lusted for in its earlier editions ...

And thus was born the postwar, factory-built and swiftly erected prefab, found in clusters, and sometimes huge estates, on the outskirts of most towns. I remember them well -- a few are still occupied today.

Re: Meccano anyone?

I spent yesterday buying several eBay job lots, and judging by this morning's confirmatory emails there's around a combined half a ton on the way. Much is a bit tatty (none of this modern rubbish) but I found this spray paint on Amazon . . . Lady B has gone very quiet on me. I'll take a pill and go ...

If you want a bunch of real nutters (after my own heart) then have a look at
https://selmec.org.uk who I found on Google
Eiffel Tower but no Blackpool Tower. And no Tower Bridge -- must get some research time in.
I love the competition cup-holders, and have bookmarked the site for inspiration.

Meccano anyone?

In an earlier post I asked what we do to occupy ourselves in lockdown. Now Lady B is a jigsaw junkie -- anything less than 1000 pieces is for softies. I've tried, and just can't get into them somehow. But I have just remembered the ultimate, three-dimensional, possibly moving jigsaw -- Meccano! As a...

Re: Weekend poser

Time for bed, said Zebedee boing ... boing ... boing .. "Now?" said Florence. "Now!" said Zebedee. I often wondered about that exchange in a children's programme. The Old English Sheepdog was of course the face of Dulux paint advertisements. I remember an occasion when I took Florence into a pub (t...

Closer than you think, Mary. Her registered Kennel Club name was Florence Lovely Morning. Remember the Magic Roundabout song? "Florence it's a lovely morning", "Florence won't you come back here!" seemed to sum her up. We bred just one pedigree litter, all of whom went with veterinary health certifi...

You know that Wiki is edited by individuals who all have their own bias? Anya is quite right. Anybody at all is free to edit/"correct" any page -- it's some notion of A People's Encyclopaedia. Which is what amuses me about those who cite it as an authority, when the original author and any subseque...
